BOTOX®

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is one of the worlds most popular cosmetic treatments. Derived from a bacterial toxin, it temporarily weakens or paralyzes certain muscles by blocking nerve activity. This in turn can relieve skin wrinkles and frown lines, returning your skin to a more youthful state.

Who is it for?

BOTOX® is most commonly used to treat adult men and women with the following:

• Lines between the eyebrows
• Forehead creases and folds
• Crows feet around the eyes

What can I expect?

After an initial consultation to see if the treatment is right for you, the doctor will mark the locations on your face to be injected with the BOTOX® and may apply a topical anasthetic for your comfort. Many patients describe the injections as feeling only like a slight pinch as the needle used is so small. After treatment you can return to normal activity right away and can expect to see gradual improvement over the next week. After 3-4 months you may need another round of treatment to maintain the look.

BOTOX® Alternative

An alternative to BOTOX® we offer is XEOMIN®. Applied in the same manner as BOTOX®, XEOMIN® is manufactured in a slightly different manner that makes it less likely for your body to develop anti-bodies against it meaning you can continue to receive these treatments and have them be effective. Your doctor can review with you during your consultation which would be best for you.

Acne

Symptoms and Causes

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. This results in whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, redness of the skin, and possibly scarring. There are a huge number of possible causes for acne, but genetics plays a major role for most people. Other factors such as hormones, stress, infections, or medications can also cause it.

When to call a doctor?

Many people are able to find sufficient treatment with over the counter products. If after trying these remedies you still haven't seen any improvement, contact your primacy care provider who can prescribe stronger medications.

How is it treated?

We have developed a specialized treatment plan, known as the Acne-86 Protocol, for our patients available only at Family Medicine Clinic. The Acne-86 Protocol uses a combination of medical grade topical treatments and blue light therapy to get your acne under control. Usually performed over 8 weeks, we are confident you'll regain confidence in your skin at the end.

Fillers

What are fillers?

Fillers are medications injected under the skin to fill in wrinkles and skin folds, resulting in a smoother appearance. Similar to your body's own collagen, they replace what your body has lost as it aged to restore a youthful look.

There are many options for fillers, but we offer the following:

• JUVÉDERM®
• JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®
• Restylane®

What can I expect?

Fillers are administered through injection using a small gauge needle and feels like a quick pinch. As the gel in injected you will feel mild pressure, but it should not be painful. Typical side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness but usually subside within a few days. Results from the procedure are instananeous.

Hair Transplant

What can I expect?

We use the FUE transplant method which involves taking hair follicles from a different area with fuller hair, and transplanting them to the balding area. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so you are awake the whole time and will not need any special assitance after your procedure.

Am I a candidate for a hair transplant?

There are several factors that determine your candidacy for the procedure. Your doctor will go over them all with you during your initial consultation, but they include number of hair grafts needed, availability and density of donor hair, hair color, skin color, hair texture, and potential future hair loss.

Liposuction

What is Liposuction for?

Liposuction is surgical procedure that uses suction to remove fat from certain areas of the body. Common areas where this is typically performed inlude the stomach area, hips, buttocks, arms, and neck. Liposuction is not recommended as an overall weight loss method, but rather used to streat specific stubborn areas.

What can I expect?

Depending on the area being worked on, your doctor may only use local or regional anasthetic during the produre. Once the doctor marks the area he will make a small incision through which he will insert the suction device to remove the fat. After the procedure you can expect some minor pain and bruising near the incision site. You may need to wait a few days before returing to work and up to a few weeks before resuming full activity. During your recovery period you will begin to notice some contour irregularities as the remaining fat and tissue settle into place, however this should mostly disappear by the end of your recovery period and be completely gone within a few months.
